Sick Policy

Please do not send your child to school if they have ANY of the following symptoms. In most cases they should remain at home until they have been free from all symptoms for 24 hours.

  • Bronchitis – may return with doctor’s permission or when free of all symptoms for 24 hours
  • Chicken Pox – they must stay home until fever free and all spots are scabbed over
  • Cough/Cold – they must stay home if they have any fever and nasal drainage is yellow or green; they may return to school when they are fever free and drainage is clear
  • Diarrhea – they must stay home until stool is no longer watery
  • Eye Drainage – this may occur with both sinus/allergy problems and pink eye. With sinus/allergy problems, infection must be treated for 24 hours at home. With pink eye, child must be treated by a doctor may return with doctor’s permission.
  • Fever – they must stay home with a fever of 100.0 or higher. They should be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Flu - may return with doctor’s permission or when free of all symptoms for 24 hours
  • Head Lice – must be free of all nits before returning to school.
  • Rash – if contagious, they must be treated by a doctor and may return with doctor’s permission.
  • Scabies – must be treated with a topical insecticide before returning to school.
  • Sore Throat/Strep Throat - they must stay home until fever free. If diagnosed with strep, they may return when they are fever free and have been on antibiotics for 24 hours.
  • Vomiting – they must stay home until they have gone 24 hours without vomiting.
    The following illnesses may not necessitate keeping the child home; however, proper precautions MUST be taken.
  • Cough/Cold – drainage must be consistently clear; no fever
  • Impetigo – area must be treated and covered
  • Ringworm – area must be covered at all times with an antifungal cream or a prescription cream
  • Staph infection - area must be treated and covered at all times and child should be on appropriate antibiotics
    If your child is sent home for any sickness, please keep them at home for a 24-hour period to ensure they are not contagious. If they see a doctor, they may return to school with doctor’s permission.
